Lycoming College freshmen will stage
an original performance piece on the mystery and myth surrounding
Anastasia on December 5 and 6 in the Mary L. Welch Theatre. The
one-hour performance starts at 8 p.m. and tickets are free. The
piece, focusing on the Czar's daughter, is a combination of
narration, scenes and visual images put together by fourteen members
of a freshman seminar class after a semester studying the Russian
Revolution. The Seminar is taught by Jaye Beetem, a member of the
theatre faculty.
The freshman seminar on Anastasia is
one of seven seminars open to incoming freshmen. The other seminars
include: "The 4th and 5th Kingdoms"
(on plants and fungi) taught by Dr. Michelle Briggs; "Darwin,
Evolution, Science, and You" taught by Dr. Edward Gabriel;
"Utopian Literature" taught by Dr. Darby Lewes; "The
Hero who runs with the Wolves" taught by Dr. Carole Moses;
"Hispanic Women Writers" taught by Dr. Sandra Kingery and
"The Psychology of Parenting" taught by Dr. Susan Kelley.
Displays from the other seminars will
be on display in the lobby of the Mary L. Welch Theatre.
