Catherine Baker Knoll, who is running
for the Lieutenant Governor on the Democratic ticket with Ed Rendell,
will speak at Lycoming College on Monday, September 30, 2002 at
7:00, in the Fine Arts Lecture Hall of the Fine Arts Building. The
Lycoming College Democrats is hosting Knoll and the event is free.
Jessie Bloom, former mayor of
Williamsport and Chair of the Lycoming County Democratic Committee
will introduce the program while Elizabeth Brescia, president of the
student Democrat organization will introduce Ms. Knoll.
Catherine Baker Knoll became the 73rd
Treasurer of Pennsylvania on January 17, 1989. As Treasurer, Knoll
built the High Tech Investment Center that has earned over $1.9
billion in interest and saved over $700 million in government waste
in pre-auditing.
A Pittsburgh native, Knoll is a
Duquesne University graduate, holding both bachelor's and master's
degrees in education. She has also attended Harvard University’s
Kennedy School of Government and the Wharton School of Business at
the University of Pennsylvania.
Knoll began her career in public
service as a western regional director with the Pennsylvania
Department of Transportation. She then served as personnel director
of the John J. Kane Hospital in Allegheny County and the St. John
Hospital.
Catherine Baker Knoll’s highest
honors include being appointed to the Federal Home Loan Bank Board
in 1999 by President Clinton, being the first government official
and first woman appointed to the AFL-CIO Housing Investment Trust’s
Board of Trustees, receiving an award from the government of Israel
for Investment in Israel Bonds, being awarded by the Pennsylvania
and National Home Builders Associations for the state official who
has done the most for housing, and taking a leadership role in the
North America Steel Frame Alliance for steel frame housing.
