Lycoming College faculty, staff, and
students gathered in the Mary L. Welch Honors Hall Tuesday, April 17, to offer prayers for
those affected by the tragic events at Virginia Tech this week. The group
joined together to honor those who lost their lives, their loved
ones, and for the Virginia Tech college community.
The service included numerous scripture
readings, prayers, hymns, and the lighting of "candles of hope."
President James E. Douthat offered a message, reminding those gathered
to pray for both the living and the dead.
Sister Catherine Ann Gilvary opened the
service saying, "We're not trying to put words to this tragedy. As a
community of faith, we gather tonight to be with one another."
As an expression of sympathy, the Student
Senate of Lycoming College coordinated the signing of a Book of
Condolences to be forwarded to the Virginia Tech Student Government
Association.
