More
than fifty guests attended a special luncheon on May 10, 2007, in the
Jane Schultz Room to celebrate the 20th
anniversary of the Lycoming College Tower Society.
The Tower
Society was established in 1987 to recognize the generosity of donors
who have included Lycoming College in their estate plan by making a
bequest or by making the College a beneficiary of a retirement plan, a
life insurance policy, a charitable trust or a charitable gift annuity.
Remarks were shared by Dr. James E. Douthat, President of the College;
Arthur A. Haberberger ’59, Chairman of the Board of Trustees; and Nancy
L. Kulchycki, Director of Major and Planned Gifts.
Dr. John Piper, Dean of the College, made a special appearance in
costume as College founder Rev. Benjamin Crever and provided an
historical account of the institution’s ascension to national status.
The Rev. Gerald D. Wagner ’56 delivered the invocation.
Following lunch, guests
were shuttled around campus in two Peter Herdic trolleys for tours
narrated by Charles “Chip” Edmonds ’98, Major and Planned Gift Officer,
and Melanie Harris Taormina ’94, Director of Alumni Relations. Jennifer
Desmond Wilson, Director of Development, led a tour of Honors Hall.
The group returned to
the Jane Schultz room that afternoon for a special archives program
hosted by Janet Hurlbert, Associate Dean and Director of Library
Services. Jane Landon, a Tower member, played the piano and Peter Ruhl,
Admissions Counselor, made a special appearance in costume as “Yats
Esool,” a team spirit character well-known to students who attended in
the 1940s and 50s.
