The Lycoming College Black
History Month Committee will be hosting a benefit concert for the
people of Darfur and Sudan. “Rock 4 Darfur” will be held from 8:00
p.m. – 1:00 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 16 at the Lycoming College
Recreation Center. Admission to the concert is a donation of any
amount, and all money collected will be donated through Oxfam
International.

The event will feature
a
number of local bands such as Hayley, Sarah Fleck and the
Palpatations, Melissa King, Univox, and John Scaranjello, West
African Drum and Dance Ensemble.
Donations will be going to
Darfur, a western region of Sudan. Darfur is currently experiencing
a conflict where over half a million people have been murdered and
another 2 million are homeless. The conflict has been described as a
“genocide” and an “ethnic cleansing” in which the government is
aiding in the mass genocide, rape and torture of its citizens.
All donations will go
through Oxfam International, a confederation of 13 organizations
with partners in more than 100 countries. The organization seeks to
find lasting solutions to poverty, suffering, and injustice.
