Biology Class at the Lycoming County Recycling Plant.
Lycoming College
students, faculty and staff placed first in the state and 11th
in the nation [in Targeted Material-Bottles and Cans] in the Seventh Annual RecycleMania competition.
Final results show
that Lycoming College recycled an average of 11 lbs of materials per
student during the ten-week competition that concluded last week.
The College currently recycles glass, cans, plastic, paper and
cardboard materials.
“Anything recycled
and kept out of the landfill extends the ability of the county to
maintain a place for trash generated in Lycoming County,” said Dr.
Mel Zimmerman, Chair of the Lycoming College Biology Department.
“Recycling pays.”
This year a record
number of 201 colleges and universities competed in RecylceMania in
the nation, including 11 higher education institutions from
Pennsylvania. For complete results, visit

RecycleMania is
organized by university recycling coordinators with administrative
support from the
U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s WasteWise program and the
National Recycling Coalition (NRC). The competition is endorsed
by
NRC’s College and University Recycling Council (CURC), and the
National Wildlife Federation’s Campus Ecology Program. |
