The
John F. Piper, Jr. and Margaret P. Piper Endowed Scholarship
was established in 2007 by the Lycoming College community, its
trustees, and friends of John and Margaret, in recognition of their
38 years of service and commitment to Lycoming.
The Pipers have
made significant contributions to Lycoming College and the
Williamsport community through their tireless support and dedication
to teaching. John served Lycoming as Professor of History for 38
years and Academic Dean from 1992 until his retirement in 2007.
John served
the United Methodist Church as an ordained pastor and held
appointments at several congregations throughout his career in the
Central Pennsylvania Conference. Margaret taught Biology at
Lycoming and served in the Academic Resource Center in the 1980’s.
She concluded her teaching career as an elementary school teacher in
the Loyalsock School District. In addition, she did much to
contribute to the life at Lycoming College through her presence at
campus events, engagement with students, and devotion to the kind of
education espoused at Lycoming. The Pipers have significantly
shaped the landscape of education and religion at Lycoming and in
Williamsport as scholars, practitioners, mentors, colleagues, and
friends. Scholarship recipients will be selected using the following
criteria:
1.
Priority will be given to
worthy scholarship candidates demonstrating financial need.

3.
