Dr. Michael Musheno '69; and Ms. Diane Dalto Woosnam '73; and Dr. James E. Douthat, President of Lycoming College, Lycoming College honored alumni Ms. Diane Dalto Woosnam ’73 of Philadelphia; Ms. Judith Calistri ’56 of Fayetteville, N.Y.; and Dr. Michael Musheno ’69 of Tempe, Ariz., on October 21 as part of the College’s Homecoming Weekend festivities. Ms. Woosnam was the recipient of the Angela R. Kyte Outstanding Alumnus Award, granted in honor of a senior alumnus who has demonstrated a lifetime of service to humanity and whose life exemplifies those qualities encouraged and fostered at Lycoming College. The award is named for a distinguished alumna, who perished in the destruction of the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001. Ms. Woosnam is Chairman of the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts. She previously served as Director of the Office of Arts and Culture for the City of Philadelphia and Co-Chairman of the Arts, Culture and History Transition Team, for the Governor of Pennsylvania. In 2000, she was awarded an Eisenhower Fellowship to examine the state of the arts and their relationship to government since the fall of communism in Hungary and the Czech Republic. Ms. Woosnam sits on the boards of numerous local, regional and national arts organizations. She received a bachelor of arts in interdisciplinary studies (psychology/sociology) from Lycoming College in 1973. She and her husband, Richard, President of Innovest Group, Inc., live in the Rittenhouse Square neighborhood of Philadelphia. Ms. Calistri was the recipient of the Dale V. Bower Service Award, granted in honor of an alumnus or non-alumnus for outstanding service rendered to Lycoming College. The award is named for its first recipient. Ms. Calistri was born and raised in Lycoming County and graduated from Lycoming College in 1956 with a bachelor of arts in English. She was active as a student and was recognized by the College community with membership in the Iruska Society and with the Faculty Award in her senior year. As an alumna, she has remained deeply involved in the life of Lycoming College, organizing and hosting alumni events, serving as a reunion giving chair and class agent, and chairing both her 40th and 50th reunion committees. Judy lives in Fayetteville, New York, and West Palm Beach, Florida. She and her late husband, Leo A. Calistri ’59, a former trustee of the College, are the parents of Marta, Eric, Brian, Colette, and Aimee. Dr. Musheno received the Outstanding Achievement Award in recognition of a very special accomplishment in a professional field or another area of accomplishment that reflects positively on Lycoming College. Dr. Musheno is Professor of Criminal Justice Studies and Director of the Program in Criminal Justice Studies at San Francisco State University and Professor Emeritus of Justice and Social Policy at Arizona State University. Prior to his appointment to SFSU, he was a professor in the School of Justice and Social Inquiry for 25 years and served in various capacities at ASU. He served as Program Director of the Law and Social Sciences Program of the National Science Foundation and was a Mid-Career Bush Fellow at Yale University. In 2002-03, he returned to Lycoming College to serve as Visiting Professor of Justice and Social Policy. Dr. Musheno recently co-authored Cops, Teachers, Counselors: Stories from the Front Lines of Public Service, which won the American Political Science Association’s 2005 Herbert A. Simon Book Award and the 2005 Best Book of Public Administration Research from the American Society of Public Administration. He is currently collaborating on a book project with Dr. Susan Ross of Lycoming College. Tentatively titled Deployed: the New American Citizen Soldiers, the book is based on retrospective interviews with 46 army reservists, all part of the same unit, who were among the first wave of military police deployed to Iraq. Dr. Musheno received his bachelor of arts in political science from Lycoming College in 1969. His master of arts (1971) and doctorate (1974) degrees are from The American University in Washington, D.C. He completed post-doctoral studies at Yale University. Dr. Musheno and his wife Birgit Vencill Musheno are the parents of a 12-year-old daughter, Micah. |
