On November 25, more than 150 high school and
middle school biology teachers will be learning how biotechnology
can be used in solving crime scene investigations at Lycoming
College with special presentations by the Pennsylvania State Police,
the Biotechnology Institute in Arlington, Va., Capital Area Science
Alliance and Boreal Laboratories. The
teacher will rotate through four special sessions. They include
"Evidence Collection from Crime Scenes," Latent Print Analysis with
Magnetic Powder and 2D and 3D Footwear Analysis," "GMO Who Done It"
where teachers will solve a case involving genetically
modified food; and "One Bite out of Crime," where teachers
will learn the techniques of forensic odontology and "Blood Splatter
Analysis."
All participating teachers get a "crime
investigator" tee shirt and free educational materials. Continuing
education hours are issued by Lycoming College.
