WILLIAMSPORT, PA – Lycoming College’s Jazz
Ensemble brings a taste of Latin America to Williamsport with "A
Night of Salsa" on November 7 at 8pm in Clarke Chapel.
Conductor and music professor Christopher
Woodruff announced that the music department will begin to feature
more music that incorporates a Latin American influence. The Jazz
Ensemble is following suit with a program that will emphasize Latin
jazz. The ensemble will feature a number of beats such as bossa
nova, salsa, meringue, and covering charts by Dizzy Gillespie,
Antonio Carlos Jobim, and Juan Tizol.
The fifteen- piece Jazz ensemble, in its
second year of existence, seeks to bring in accomplished jazz
performers as guest artists. Featured in the past have been Lycoming
alumni Dick Adams, a local saxophonist. For "A Night of Salsa"
recording artist Tim Breon, known throughout the region for his bass
and guitar abilities, performs with the ensemble for this concert.
Admission to the performance is free to the
public. For more information, consult the Lycoming College Website
or contact the music department at (570) 321-4016.
