Lycoming College is the recipient of a $125,000 Growing Greener
grant from the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection
that will help to create a repository web site for watershed data
throughout the state.
According to Dr. Mel Zimmerman , chairman of
the College’s Biology Department and director of the College’s
Clean
Water Institute, the grant will be used to buy software and
equipment and pay a systems analyst to create and maintain the
special web site. The site will be used to provide background and
education on stream restoration and technical data for watershed
projects.
Lycoming College will also benefit from three
other Growing Greener grants awarded to Lycoming County watersheds.
Lycoming College students will help in the data collection and
analysis of ecosystems along Lycoming Creek, Big Bear Creek and
Munch Creek. |
