1893-96           missionary to Africa

Note: Jennie Taylor Gordon is the daughter of Andrew E. Taylor (whose card gives a complete list of the related Taylor pastors in the Methodist ministry) and the niece of prominent Bishop William Taylor (1821-1902), with whom she traveled to Africa.  She is a graduate of Williamsport Dickinson College, Dickinson College, and the Woman’s Medical College of Philadelphia.  After working as a physician and surgeon at the Methodist Episcopal Hospital in Philadelphia, she studied dentistry and is reported to be the first person to go abroad as a dental missionary.  Rev. Charles W. Gordon was born in Lynn MA and served as a Methodist missionary in various African Conferences and is last listed in 1903 as being “home in America.”  He is not to be confused with the Presbyterian Rev. Dr. Charles William Gordon (1860-1937) who served as a missionary and wrote novels under the pen name Ralph Conner.
