Deb Emig

Deb Emig ’s mother worked in garment factories in Williamsport for 35 years and her grandmother worked at Susquehanna Silk Mill Co. in Jersey Shore, PA. Deb started working at Weldon’s pajama factory, where her mother worked, during the summer when she was in high school. Then she worked as a sewing machine operator at Glamorise and was chosen by a supervisor to move to the pattern department, which was a rare opportunity for a woman. Patternmaking in garment factories, a better paying job, was considred a job for men. Deb later went to design school and worked as a patternmaker at Woolrich.
