Lycoming College students present at Food Waste & Hunger Summit

Three Lycoming College students recently presented at the second annual Food Waste & Hunger Summit at the University of Georgia in Athens, Georgia. The students who presented included Jen Carmody, a sophomore with a major in digital communications from Burlington, Connecticut; Julian Jones, a junior with a major in ecology from Washington, New Jersey; and Johanna Hripto, a sophomore with a major in ecology from Montrose.

Sustainability Committee partners with Food Recovery Network

In an effort to fight food waste and to help those in need, the Lycoming College Sustainability Committee has teamed up with the Food Recovery Network (FRN) to save surplus food in the college’s dining hall and donate it to the local American Rescue Workers’ (ARW) shelter. Lycoming recently became the 50th chapter of the FRN in the nation.

Student is first intern at Camp Victory

Kourtney Mottern, a junior in the sustainable business management track within the business administration major at Lycoming College, has been selected as one of the first summer environmental education interns at Camp Victory, in Millville. The announcement was made by Dr. Peter Petokas, research associate with the College’s Clean Water Institute, and Jamie Huntley, executive director of Camp Victory.

Clean Water Institute to co-host showing of Green Fire

The Lycoming College Clean Water Institute, in partnership with Pennsylvania College of Technology, will host a free, public showing of the Emmy Award-winning documentary "Green Fire" on Tuesday, Jan. 15, at 7 p.m. at the Community Arts Center in downtown Williamsport. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m.

Students attend sustainability conference

Six students from the Lycoming College Sustainability Committee attended a conference, titled "Making Progress – Working on Climate Change in Pennsylvania Higher Education," at Susquehanna University on Nov. 2. The event was organized by the Pennsylvania Environmental Resource Consortium (PERC). Information was presented on how Pennsylvania colleges and universities are conducting energy audits and implementing energy efficient technology.

Lycoming to tackle recycling at homecoming game

Lycoming College will participate in the nationwide Game Day Challenge sustainability initiative during the Homecoming football game, Saturday, Oct 20 at 1:30 p.m. at David Person Field. The College is one of nearly 70 schools across the country that will participate in the program during the 2012 football season.
