Scoial Life and Friendships
The terms "fraternity and sorority" are described as primarily social groups linked by similar interests. The goal of every chapter is to bring together a group of men/women to build friendships, traditions, and allow them to enjoy their special bond. Greeks provide a wide range of social activities and programs for affiliated members. All events are required to adhere to Lycoming policies, state and federal laws, and national office risk management standards. Organized social events include:
|
Formals
Greek Week
Awards Banquet
Dance Parties
Leadership Conferences |
Family Weekend
Homecoming
Little Siblings Weekend
Study Breaks
Other non-alcoholic social activities |
What we've got for you......
The Greek community is dedicated to future leaders by providing a wealth of leadership opportunities. From social issues to academia, business to philanthropy, the leaders of today are gaining their leadership edge from their fraternal experiences. Greek membership is one of the most outstanding means of discovering and refining leadership potential. Opportunities to learn and practice leadership stretch beyond chapters, as there are many campus community-wide leadership roles open in the Greek Grand Council, Interfraternity Council, and Panhellenic Council.
Scholarship
Academic achievement is the first and foremost priority of all students. Scholastic excellence is a central part of each chapter's goals. Each fraternity and sorority places a strong emphasis on creating an atmosphere conducive to high academic performance, as well as challenging each member to live up to his or her highest academic potential.
Fraternities and sororities implement various programs designed to assist members in their academic pursuits. These include tutoring, study hours, study tables, educational programs on time management, incentives, and a set minimum GPA.
Diversity
The Greek community at Lycoming College prides itself on offering opportunities to a multicultural society. Greeks support the mission to attract and graduate students from all backgrounds. Our educational activities and everyday interactions are enriched by our acceptance of one another and absolute respect for human dignity.
So you want to join us?
The decision to affiliate with a fraternity/sorority can be very difficult since there are a variety of chapters. The most important fact is to remember that you are the one making this decision. Choose the sorority or fraternity that is best for you. Here are some tips to help you make the right decision:
- Think about why you want to join a sorority/fraternity and evaluate what you are looking for.
- Find a fraternity/sorority that you are most comfortable with and ask yourself why you are comfortable with that group.
- What qualities of this group do you want to be a part of?
- What can these qualities do for you as a person?
- Ask questions if you are interested.
