Fraternity & Sorority Advisors
Fraternity and sorority advisors are an invaluable wealth of information for student leaders. Each Chapter is required to have a faculty/staff advisor and the Chapter leadership is expected to meet with the advisor on a regular basis. It is highly suggested that Chapter leadership and the advisor meet early in the academic year to discuss expectations and complete the Chapter/Advisor Agreement (PDF). The advisor agreement can be modified to meet the unique needs of each organization, but the agreement should be in writing and a copy given to the Chapter, the advisor and on file in the Student Programs Office. The advisor agreement outlines from the beginning how the relationship between Chapter and advisor will develop.
The Office of Student Programs & Leadership Development strives to serve as a resource for faculty/staff advisors. Advisors can expect to be provided training once a year and to meet with the Assistant DIrector for Student Programs & Leadership Development at least once a semester to discuss the Chapter. In addition, the Student Programs Office commits to maintaining positive working relationships with advisors and office staff are available to meet with advisors as needed.
The Association of Fraternity Advisors (AFA) has created a Advisor Manual containing a wealth of information on advising fraternities and sororities. Chapter's from the manual are available to download in Adobe PDF format below.
