SMOKING POLICY
Lycoming College seeks to promote the health and safety of all members of our community. In an effort to comply with the Pennsylvania Clean Air Act and to provide a smoke-free environment for its students, faculty, staff, and visitors, the College adopted an indoor smoking policy on July 1, 1993, that prohibits smoking in all College buildings. Exceptions to this policy are:
- Non-shared, private, well-ventilated areas when these areas are not being visited by faculty, staff, students, or visitors.
- Designated smoking areas to be determined by unanimous agreement of faculty and staff within a department or building. These areas must be properly ventilated and equipped with operable windows. A designated smoking area may not be a restroom or the sole eating lounge of the building.
- Designated lounge areas in College residence halls as well as individual student rooms where smoking is mutually agreed upon by all residents.
The success of this policy will depend upon the thoughtfulness, consideration, and cooperation of smokers and non-smokers. All faculty, staff and students share in the responsibility of adhering to and enforcing the policy. Any problems should be brought to the attention of the appropriate supervisor or residential staff member.
