Managed under the
auspices of the Dean of the College, the Academic Resource Center
(ARC) is located on the third floor of the Snowden Library
and offers a variety
of academic support programs in order to meet students' academic
needs. Services are free and available on a walk-in basis. Programs
sponsored by the ARC are designed to help all students learn, review,
and improve academic skills. Support programs designed for all
Lycoming students include the following:
- the Writing Center which offers
one-on-one peer and professional tutoring on a walk-in basis;
- one-on-one peer tutoring in all subjects on an
appointment basis;
- study group programs in selected classes;
- ARC100 Success Skills Workshops (time management,
note-taking, highlighting, test-taking);
- individual counseling in study skills;
- support services for students with disabilities.
CAMPUS STORE, Wertz Center

The
Campus Store is located on the second floor in the Wertz Student
Center. Students are able
to purchase textbooks, school supplies, personal care items, clothing
and various gift items. Normal
hours of operation are Monday through Friday 8:00 am to 4:00 pm.
During the first week of each semester (fall/Spring) the Campus Store
will have extended hours from 8 am to 5 pm Monday through Friday.
Throughout the
school year during sporting events and special activities, the
bookstore will open for additional hours.
These extended hours will always be announced in advance.

In support of the educational mission of the college, Lycoming has
networked the entire campus. Fiber optic cable is in place between all
buildings on campus. All buildings, including the residence halls, are
wired and share local area network services. Over 350 computers are in
place in faculty and staff offices as well as 100 in several public
labs. Windows compatible labs are located in the Academic Center in
B200, B201, A3, and Heim G04. the Graphics Lab is in A5 and has
high-end PC and Macintosh computers.
The PC compatible labs are using the windows NT 4.0 operating
system. Several major software packages are available for student use
including Microsoft Office 2000's Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and
Frontpage 2000; SPSS, Pagemaker; Illustrator; PhotoShop; and a variety
of other programs including programming languages. The Graphics Lab is
using applications such as PageMaker, PhotoShop, and Macromedia
Director. Laser and color printing as well as scanning is available
from all labs. The Office of Information Technology Services provides
consultants for over 100 hours each week in the public labs. All
labs are open Monday through Thursday from 8;00 a.m. to 12:00 a.m.,
Friday 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., Saturday from 1:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.,
and Sunday from 1:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m.
Resources for the Internet and the local area network are available
to all students at Lycoming from the labs and from their rooms in the
residence halls using Resnet. During Freshman Orientation, the
students are given an e-mail account and training. Any upperclassman who does not have an e-mail account can apply for one at the ITS office located in the basement of the Academic Center, room A7.
Internet Explorer, the World Wide Web browser, is available in all
labs so students can cruise the information highway. Many faculty have
students interact with their peers around the world, as well as
encouraging research via the Internet resources like the World Wide
Web and Newsgroups. Lycoming currently has its own World Wide Web
server (http://www.lycoming.edu), news server, and list server.
Faculty, staff, and students can publish their own webpages.
All residence halls have been wired for network connections.
Students living in the residence halls and equipped with properly
configured computers can access the Internet and related services from

A special price with a local Internet provider is available for off
campus access for all faculty, staff, and students. Please contact the
ITS for information. All faculty, staff, and students use GroupWise on
campus and off campus via their web browser to access their e-mail.
An IBM RS6000 running AIX and Novell servers provides access to a
variety of different software packages to students in the Mathematical
Sciences. ITS staff offer end user support for all of the above
functions. Members of the college community can also receive training
and support for the various applications on campus by scheduling
one-on-one training sessions or by attending the workshops offered in
the fall and spring semesters. ITS can be contacted by calling

COMPUTER LABS
Windows-based public labs are available for students, staff, and
faculty use. The B-200 and B-201 labs are located on the second floor
of the Academic Center, across from the Video Conferencing Facility.
The A-3 IBM/Windows lab and the A-5 IBM/Windows - Macintosh lab are
located on the ground floor below the library and adjacent to the
Telecommunications Office. The Heim G-04 lab is located on the gorund
floor of the Heim Science Building near the G-9 and G-11 lecture

LAB HOURS
Hours may vary during the summer, semester breaks, and holidays.
Classes are scheduled in the labs during the semester. Schedules are
posted in the labs, the ITS, and at other locations throughout the
campus. If in doubt, call the labs before visiting (B200 and B201 at
extension 4329; Graphics and A3 labs at extension 4155or Heim lab at
extension 4356. If no answer, call the lab supervisor at extension
4313 between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.) Extended hours are
scheduled for the two weeks before finals subject to the availability

Technology workshops are designed to assist in the incorporation of
current as well as new and emerging technologies into everyday
classroom instruction. These courses will provide hands-on training so
those trainees may follow along with the instructors. Over twenty
different courses are available ranging from the introductory through
the advanced are available for students, faculty , and staff. In
addition, the Office of Information Technology Services can offer customized
training to meet departmental needs and one-on-one training for those
who cannot make scheduled workshops.

The Office of Financial Aid provides a variety of services and
information to our students including:
- Annual distribution of financial aid applications
- Notification of student eligibility for financial aid
- Financial aid counseling for both students and parents
- Information concerning various sources of financial aid
- Information regarding on-campus student employment
- Educational loan counseling
- Information regarding students' rights and responsibilities as
financial aid recipients.
In addition to taking advantage of these services, students are
encouraged to contact the office if any unforeseen financial
difficulties arise during the course of the academic year.
JACK’S CORNER, Wertz Center, North
Wing
Jack's Corner provides a location for students, faculty, staff, and
guests to relax and have some fun. The facility is equipped with a pool
table, a stereo system, high definition TV, DVD player, on-campus
telephone, and computer e-mail/web access.
JP's, the campus snack bar, is also located in Jack's Corner. Open
Sunday through Thursday from 7:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m., and Friday and
Saturday from 8:00 p.m. to 1:00a.m. JP's offers a
variety of snack items including Freshens smoothies, cheese steaks,
French fries, salads and sandwiches "to go" and beverages. Students can use their flex dollars (available through the
college meal plan) to purchase items from JP's. Information regarding
the flex plan is available at the Treasurer's Office on the first
floor of Long Hall.
JAZZMAN"S, Pennington Lounge, Academic Center
Jazzman’s is a
Seattle style coffee shop, which also serves a variety of pastries,
and features breakfast and lunch specials daily including gourmet
sandwiches and salads. The hours of operation are Monday thru Friday
7:00AM till 3:30PM. Students can use their flex dollars at Jazzman’s
(available through their meal plan) to purchase all items.
Information regarding the flex plan is available at the Treasurer’s
Office on the first floor of Long Hall.
LAMADE GYMNASIUM
The modern physical education and recreation center contains three
basketball courts and seating for 2,300, a swimming pool and gallery
that seats 210, a spacious, fully matted wrestling room, a weight
room, training room, "all purpose" room, sauna, and steam
room. The recently added exercise room is equipped with treadmills,
steppers, stationery bikes, and Nautilus equipment. The center is the
site of the athletic department offices and physical education
classes. Students may use the building's ample locker rooms for
changing and showering for classes and during recreational periods.
RECREATION AREAS
Lycoming's "quad" is the most popular area for outdoor
activities. You are also encouraged to use the west campus field, off
Mulberry Street, and the Physical Education and Recreation Center. The
College athletic fields complex has large fields for recreation and
Brandon Park (just north of campus) has tennis courts.

- Your current college ID is needed to borrow library materials
and to use reserved items
The library is a smoke-free area. Drinks and small snacks are
permitted but we ask that drinks be in closed containers..
WERTZ STUDENT CENTER
The Wertz Student Center is the activity center on campus. It is
designed to serve the needs of the students, faculty, and staff as a
social, recreational, and cultural center. All groups on campus,
including summer conference groups, are considered to be a part of the
College and are welcome to use the building and all of its facilities
while they are guests.
The proper care of the building, furnishings, and equipment are the
responsibility of all who use them. Specific regulations regarding the
misuse of the building by individuals or groups may be enacted by the
Office of Student Programs as the need dictates.
The public rooms in the Wertz Student Center may not be reserved
for the exclusive use of groups in which attendance is limited to
their membership. Any exception to this general rule must be approved
by the Director of Student Programs or the President of the College.
The facilities and College-owned equipment in the Wertz Student
Center are to be provided at no additional cost to the student.
