Lycoming Women’s Tennis Falls to Scranton, 5-4       Lady Warriors Still Have Their Eyes on the Playoffs

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa.—The Lady Warriors (2-6, 2-2) played well, but couldn’t overcome a strong Scranton team (5-2, 4-1) on Saturday. Now Lycoming must win its next match for a chance at the Freedom Conference playoffs.

The visiting Lady Royals took four of six singles matches, with the two Lycoming victories going to freshmen Kelly Drinkard (Seaville, NJ) and Brittany Knopp (Allenwood, PA). The Lady Warriors did win two out of three doubles matches. Again Knopp, who partnered with Liz Koury (Mansfield, PA), and Drinkard, playing with Amiee Snyder (Kempton, PA), were victorious.

Head Coach Deb Holmes acknowledges that her team has improved throughout the year, an attribute she admires. “Even though (Scranton) had a better record, we were right there,” says Holmes. “We’ve been right there with everybody, but now it’s a must win next weekend.”

Lycoming travels to FDU-Florham (4-5, 0-4) on Saturday for a 1:00 p.m. match. A win would likely propel the Lady Warriors into the playoffs for a rematch versus powerhouse Wilkes (11-0, 6-0)
