Knopp Named
First Team All-Conference
Freshman Also Freedom
Conference Rookie of the Year
WILLIAMSPORT,
Pa.—Lycoming Freshman Brittany Knopp (Allenwood, PA) was
named Freedom Conference Rookie of the Year and first team
All-Conference shortly before she competed in the MASCAC
Individual/Doubles Championships this past weekend. Knopp and
teammates Lauren Paich (Stanhope, NJ), Amiee Snyder (Kempton,
PA), Amery Lim (East Stroudsburg, PA) and Kelly Drinkard (Seaville,
NJ) traveled to Lehigh University for the Championships.
In singles,
Knopp faced DeSales junior Courtney McClurkin, the first
flight’s number four seed. McClurkin knocked off the Rookie of the
Year, 6-0, 6-1. Lim won her first round (fifth flight) match over
Kim Coder of Albright. Drinkard, sixth flight, also advanced to
the second round.
In doubles, both
Lim and Paich (second flight) and Drinkard and Snyder (third flight)
advanced by beating teams from Albright. The score of both matches
was 8-1. No Lady Warriors, singles or doubles, made it out of the
second round.
However, Knopp’s
first year honors bode well for coach Deb Holmes. Knopp
returns, along with five other underclassmen, to lead Lycoming next
year. Amanda Herrick (Middlesex, NJ) and Jessica Souchik
(Lewis Run, PA) will be Holmes’ only upperclassmen in 2007.
