Warriors Drop Fourth Consecutive
Match
Williamsport, Pa. –
Lycoming College women’s tennis continues to struggle in the early
going of the season as the Warriors fell to Wilkes University 3-1 on
Tuesday afternoon in Williamsport.
Senior Josie
Castillo (Maracaibo, Venezuela/Muncy) improved her singles
winning streak to three matches with a 7-6 (7-2), 6-4 victory over
Kristin Wilt. Her personal record now sits at 3-1 on the year.
At number four and
five singles, freshman Kayla Scott (Pen Argyl, Pa./Pen Argyl)
and junior Amery Lim (Stroudsburg, Pa./Stroudsburg) were
strong in the first set of each of their matches. Scott came
within a break of taking the first stanza from Katelyn Mullen, and
Lim was within two breaks of Cassie Malone at 6-3.
In doubles action,
the Warriors put up strong fights in the first and second ladder
positions. Castillo and fellow senior Kate Petcavage
(Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport) took Wilt and Alison McDonald
to extra points in falling 9-7, and Lim and junior Lauren Paich
(Stanhope, N.J./Lenape Valley Reg.) were only a break off pace
at 8-6.
Lycoming travels to
the University of Scranton for its next match on Saturday, September
17. The match is schedule to begin at 12:00 p.m.
