Warriors Find Winning Ways

Williamsport, Pa. – The Lycoming women’s tennis team earned its first team victory of the season in resounding fashion with an 8-1 thumping of FDU-Florham on Saturday afternoon.  Lycoming improves to 1-8 overall, 1-4 in the Freedom Conference.

The Warriors earned victory in two of three doubles matches.  FDU forfeited its number three doubles pairing.  Seniors Josie Castillo (Maracaibo, Venezuela/Muncy) and Kate Petcavage (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport) smacked Robin Hargesheimer and Julie Hartnett 8-1 at number one doubles.  Juniors Amery Lim (Stroudsburg, Pa./Stroudsburg) and Lauren Paich (Stanhope, N.J./Lenape Valley Regional) did one better in winning their number two doubles match 8-0.

Lycoming claimed four of six singles matches on the afternoon.  Castillo bested Heather Sobuleski 6-1, 6-0 from the number one position.  Paich fell at number two singles 4-6, 4-6 in a close match with Hartnett.

Petcavage won by a break in the first set at number three singles, but made short work of Hargesheimer in the second to win 6-4, 6-0.  Freshman Kayla Scott (Pen Argyl, Pa./Pen Argyl) had few problems with Kathryn Keyser in the fourth slot in winning 6-2, 6-0.  Lim was equally as efficient in defeating Katrina Musto 6-3, 6-1 at number five singles.

FDU forfeited in the sixth position.

Lycoming is next in action on Sunday, October 9, as the Warriors travel to Drew University for a Freedom Conference match up.
