LYCOMING WOMEN’S TENNIS DEFEATS DESALES IN HOME OPENER

WILLIAMSPORT, PA – The Lycoming College women’s tennis team hosted DeSales University, Saturday afternoon, for a Freedom Conference match. The Warriors won all three doubles matches and then added four-of-six singles matches, to win by a final score of 7-2. Lycoming improves to 1-1 with the victory. The Bulldogs open the year at 0-1.

Heidi von Schwedler (Sr./Tannersville, Pa.; Pocono Mountain) and Josemar Castillo (So./Maracaibo, Venezuela; Claret and Muncy) got things started for the Warriors with an 8-2 win at first doubles. Lauren Paich (Fr./Stanhope, N.J.; Lenape Valley Reg.) and Amery Lim (Fr./Stroudsburg, Pa.; Stroudsburg) followed with an 8-0 win at second doubles and Michelle Roux (Jr./Collegeville, Pa; Methacton) teamed up with Lisa Pease (Jr./Warrington, Pa.; Central bucks East) for an 8-4 victory at the third position.

Castillo picked up her second win of the afternoon at second singles, topping her opponent by scores of 6-3 and 6-3. Anna Heffner (Fr./Williamsport, Pa.; Williamsport), Kate Petcavage (So./Williamsport, Pa.; Williamsport), and Erin Horsley (Jr./Allegany, N.Y.; Allegany) also picked up singles victories. Heffner won 6-0, 6-0, at fourth singles, Petcavage won 6-0, 6-1 in the fifth position, and Horsley won at sixth singles, 6-0, 6-0.

Lycoming will play again on Tuesday, September 9, when they travel to Juniata College.
