WOMEN’S TENNIS SUFFERS TOUGH LOSS IN SEASON OPENER
ANNVILLE, PA – The
Lycoming College women’s tennis team opened the 2003 season at Lebanon
Valley College, Thursday afternoon. The Warriors fell to the Dutchmen by a
tight 5-4 score. Lycoming claimed two-of-three doubles matches, but was
only able to win two-of-six singles matches.
Heidi
von Schwedler (Sr./Tannersville, Pa./Pocono Mountain)
and Josemar Castillo (So./Maracaibo, Venezuela; Muncy) got things
started with an 8-1 victory at first doubles. Anna Heffner
(Fr./Williamsport, Pa.; Williamsport) and Kate Petcavage
(So./Williamsport, Pa.; Williamsport) added an 8-6 victory at second
doubles.
Von
Schwedler and Castillo each won their singles matches as well. Von
Schwedler defeated Amora Cook, 6-3, 6-4, in the first position. Castillo
topped Sophia Kwon, 6-1, 6-0, at the number two spot.
The
Warriors are in action again on Saturday, September 6, when they host
DeSales University for their first Freedom Conference match of the season.
The match is scheduled to begin at noon in Bruce Henry Park.
