LYCOMING’S VON SCHWEDLER AND CASTILLO ADVANCE TO SEMIFINALS

MADISON, N.J. – Lycoming College women’s tennis players Heidi von Schwedler (Sr./Tannersville, Pa.; Pocono Mountain) and Josemar Castillo (So./Maracaibo, Venezuela; Caret and Muncy) turned in a solid performance during the first day of action at the Middle Atlantic Conference Doubles Championships. The Warrior duo entered the tournament as the number-one seed after a 9-0 regular season and have advanced to the semifinals after one day of play.

Von Schwedler and Castillo received a bye in the first round. In the second round they defeated Kristin Kile and Rajitha Devadoss of Wilkes University, 6-1, 6-1. In the quarterfinals, von Schwedler and Castillo topped Megan Barnickel and Rebecca Grant of Messiah College, 6-2, 6-2. 

The pair will face Lauren Castagna and Becky Deringer, the number three seed from Moravian College, in the semifinals beginning at 10 a.m. tomorrow morning.
