LYCOMING WOMEN’S TENNIS DETHRONES KING’S

WILKES-BARRE, PA – The Lycoming College women’s tennis team picked up a 7-2 victory over King’s College, Wednesday afternoon. The Warriors improve to 3-1 overall and 2-0 in the conference. The Monarchs drop to 1-3 and 0-1.

Lycoming opened play with two victories in three doubles matches. Heidi von Schwedler (Sr./Tannersville, Pa.; Pocono Mountain) teamed up with Josemar Castillo (So./Maracaibo, Venezuela; Claret and Muncy) for an 8-4 win at first doubles. Kate Petcavage (So./Williamsport, Pa.; Williamsport) and Lauren Pilgermayer (Jr./Reeders, Pa.; Pleasant Valley) added an 8-1 victory at third doubles.

In singles action, von Schwedler picked up another win with a 6-3, 6-2, victory in the first position. Castillo won 6-1, 6-1 in the second position. At third singles Lauren Paich (Fr./Stanhope, N.J.; Lenape Valley Reg.) won 6-4, 6-0. Pilgermayer was a winner at fifth singles by a score of 6-1, 6-0. And last but not least, Amery Lim (Fr./Stroudsburg, Pa.; Stroudsburg) added a 6-1, 6-7(0-7), 10-7 victory at sixth singles.

The Warriors are right back at it Thursday afternoon as they host Wilkes University for another conference match. The match begins at 4 p.m. at Bruce Henry Park.
