LYCOMING WOMEN’S
TENNIS WRAPS UP REGULAR SEASON WITH WIN OVER WILKES
WILLIAMSPORT, PA – The
Lycoming College women’s tennis team traveled to Wilkes University,
Saturday afternoon, for their final regular season match of the 2002
campaign. The Warriors won 2-of-3 doubles matches and swept the singles
matches to record the 8-1 team victory. Lycoming completes the regular
season with a 7-2 mark overall and 5-1 record within the Freedom
Conference.
Cricket Temple
(Sr./Picture Rocks, PA; Hughesville)
and Meredith Moerschbacher (Sr./Montoursville, PA; Montoursville)
picked up an 8-0 win at first doubles for the Warriors. The victory kept
the duo’s record perfect at 7-0. Lycoming also won third singles by a
forfeit.
In singles play, Temple
and Moerschbacher each tallied their second win of the contest. Temple won
6-0, 6-1 at first singles; and Moerschbacher won 6-1, 6-1 at second
singles. Josemar Castillo (Fr./Maracaibo, Venezuela; Muncy) added a
win from the third position by a score of 6-1, 6-1. Erin Mastrontonio
(Jr./Elmira, NY; Elmira Freedom Academy) recorded her first collegiate
win, defeating her opponent 7-6(6-3), 6-4 at fourth singles. Amy
Ramaley (Sr./Easton, PA; Pen Argyl) rounded things out for the
Warriors with a 6-3, 6-0 win at fifth singles. Lycoming also won sixth
singles by a forfeit.
The Warriors completed
the 2002 season in a three-way tie for first-place in the Freedom
Conference. By virtue of tie-breaking procedures, Lycoming will enter the
MAC playoffs as the Freedom Conference second seed. They will travel to
Moravian College on Wednesday, October 9, for the semifinal match.
