Women's Tennis

LYCOMING WOMEN’S TENNIS TOPS SCRANTON

SCRANTON, PA – The Lycoming College women’s tennis team won their 17th consecutive regular-season match, blowing out the University of Scranton, 8-1. The Warriors are now 2-0 early in the 2001 season.

Lycoming opened the match by winning 2-of-3 doubles contests. Heidi von Schwedler (So./Tannersville, PA; Pocono Mountain) teamed with Sara Deardorff (Sr./North Wales, PA; North Penn) to claim an 8-5 victory in the second position. Freshmen Pamela Zeger (Potomac, MD; Winston Churchill) and Alissa Brown (Hughesville, PA; Hughesville) topped their opponents in the third position, 8-4.

In singles action, the Warriors swept the Royals winning all six matches. Cricket Temple (Jr./Hughesville, PA; Hughesville) defeated Erin Michalisin at first singles, 6-3, 6-2. Meredith Moerschbacher (Jr./Montoursville, PA; Montoursville) topped Katie McClure at second singles, 6-0, 6-2. In the third spot, von Schwedler downed Katie King, 6-4, 6-3. Brown claimed her second win of the afternoon at fourth singles against Sheila Broadhead, 6-0, 6-0. Zeger and Deardorff also won for the second time at fifth and sixth singles. Zeger topped Kristen Bellino, 6-0, 6-0; and Deardorff beat Jennifer Dammer, 6-1, 6-0.

Lycoming and Scranton also played a pair of exhibition matches. The Warriors’ Lauren Pilgermayer (Fr./Kunkletown, PA; Pleasant Valley) defeated Megan Hosey, 8-4. Amy Ramaley (So./Easton, PA; Pen Argyl) fell to Beth Mullen, 3-8.

Lycoming will host Juniata College for their next match on Tuesday, September 11.
