Lady Warriors Defeat King’s, 2-0 A Goal Per Period Keeps Lady Monarch’s at Bay
WILLIAMSPORT,
Pa–The women’s soccer team (4-8-1) played well against Kings College
(5-8-2) on Wednesday. The Lady Warriors had good penetration, recording
16 shots, ten of which
Lycoming fired six shots in the first half, compared to three from King’s. Warrior goalkeeper, Jessica Bennett (Crofton, MD), was perfect on the day, saving six shots. Rebekah Shipe (Northumberland, Pa) led Lycoming’s charge scoring the match’s first goal in the 43rd minute. The shot was assisted by Sarah Wingerden (Macedon NY). The Lady Monarchs came out firing in the second half, reeling off five shots, but they couldn’t sneak one past Bennett. In the 59th minute, Shipe and Wingerden turned the tables and took the ball the other way. Then Amanda Smolarek (Cranbury NJ), assisted by Shipe, ended the hopes of the Monarch’s by netting the blue and gold’s second goal. Lycoming hopes to keep their momentum rolling this weekend. On Saturday, they travel to Frederick, Maryland to face Hood. |
