Lady Warriors Force Tie to
Rivals
Williamsport, Pa. – Playing extra time
seems to be expected when the Lycoming Lady Warriors take the
field as they played into overtime for the third time out of
four games this season. The first two resulted in a win and a
loss so fittingly the Lady Warriors tied 1-1 to their rivals
from Susquehanna. The tie makes Lycoming’s record 2-1-1 while
the Crusaders from Susquehanna are now 2-2-1.
Susquehanna opened up the
scoring first when A. J. Chianese had a one on one
breakaway against goalie Jessica Bennett (Crofton, Md.)
and put the ball past her in the 34th minute of the 1st
half. Ten minutes later the Lady Warriors responded when
Amanda Smolarek (Cranbury, N.J.) sent a through ball to
Sarah Wingerden (Macedon, N.Y.) who beat the keeper to tie
the score at 1-1.
The rest of the game was back
and forth as both teams had scoring opportunities, but both
goalies played up to expectations and turned away each
opportunity. Susquehanna’s goalie Megan Steese ended the
game with 4 saves while Bennett had 11 for the Lady Warriors.
Lady Warriors next match is at
Scranton on Sept. 20, at 7:00 pm. The next home match is Sept.
23, when they take on Elizabethtown. Match time is set for 3:30
pm.
