Warriors End Season with Loss to DeSales

Allentown, Pa. – Lycoming College women’s soccer ended an up and down 2005 season with a 3-1 loss to DeSales University on Saturday afternoon in Allentown.  The Warriors finish 8-9 overall, 1-6 in Freedom Conference play.

Lycoming looked sharp in the first 45 minutes of play, but gave up a pair of goals and were out shot 13-6 in the second half against the Bulldogs.

Sophomore Danielle Curry (West Chester, Pa./East) put the Warriors on the board first with her ninth goal of the season just 7:25 into the game.  Freshman stopper Dana Steinbruch (Wyckoff, N.J./Ramapo) picked up the assist.

DeSales leveled the match in the 16th minute when Rachel Emmons notched the first of her two scores on the day.

Katie Dishman put the Bulldogs ahead in the 55th minute off an assist from Kaitlyn Celeste.  Emmons added an extra tally in the 80th minute.  Jessica Baker assisted on that effort.

For the second consecutive season a newcomer led the Warriors in scoring.  Freshman Rebekah Shipe (Northumberland, Pa./Northumberland Christian) accumulated 28 points on 12 goals and four assists.  She also tied for first in the conference in total points.  Curry, last year’s conference rookie of the year and team leading scorer, finished second on the team with nine goals and seven assists for 25 points.  Freshman wing Stephanie Shearer (Reading, Pa./Muhlenberg) was the only other double-digit scorer for Lycoming with 14 points on five goals and four assists.
