Warriors End Season with Loss
to DeSales
Allentown, Pa. – Lycoming
College women’s soccer ended an up and down 2005 season with a
3-1 loss to DeSales University on Saturday afternoon in
Allentown. The Warriors finish 8-9 overall, 1-6 in Freedom
Conference play.
Lycoming looked sharp in the
first 45 minutes of play, but gave up a pair of goals and were
out shot 13-6 in the second half against the Bulldogs.
Sophomore Danielle Curry
(West Chester, Pa./East) put the Warriors on the board first
with her ninth goal of the season just 7:25 into the game.
Freshman stopper Dana Steinbruch (Wyckoff, N.J./Ramapo)
picked up the assist.
DeSales leveled the match in
the 16th minute when Rachel Emmons notched the first
of her two scores on the day.
Katie Dishman put the
Bulldogs ahead in the 55th minute off an assist from
Kaitlyn Celeste. Emmons added an extra tally in the 80th
minute. Jessica Baker assisted on that effort.
For the second consecutive
season a newcomer led the Warriors in scoring. Freshman
Rebekah Shipe (Northumberland, Pa./Northumberland Christian)
accumulated 28 points on 12 goals and four assists. She also
tied for first in the conference in total points. Curry, last
year’s conference rookie of the year and team leading scorer,
finished second on the team with nine goals and seven assists
for 25 points. Freshman wing Stephanie Shearer (Reading,
Pa./Muhlenberg) was the only other double-digit scorer for
Lycoming with 14 points on five goals and four assists. |
