Warriors Back on Track with Win
at Cedar Crest
Allentown, Pa. – Lycoming
College women’s soccer righted the ship after Saturday’s
unsettling loss to Elizabethtown College with a 2-1 triumph over
Cedar Crest College in Allentown on Monday afternoon. The win
improves the Warriors’ season mark to 6-2.
The freshman combination of
Sarah Wingerden (Macedon, N.Y./Palmyra-Macedon) and
Rebekah Shipe (Northumberland, Pa./Northumberland Christian)
needed only 32 seconds to get on the board. Wingerden easily
redirected Shipe’s end line pass into the net for an early 1-0
advantage.
The Falcons refused to sit
back and give it to the Warriors as they tied the score in the
31st minute with a goal from Danielle Skinner.
Both defenses took over for
nearly 50 minutes until sophomore Danielle Curry (West
Chester, Pa./East) picked up her sixth assist of the season
on a thru-ball to Shipe 84th minute. Lycoming’s
leading goal scorer wrong-footed the keeper with a faked-shot
move, dribbled around the defenseless net-minder, and deposited
the ball between the goal posts to secure the victory.
Lycoming’s defense allowed
only seven shots to the Falcons, making life much easier for
keeper Jessica Bennett (Crofton, Md./South River) than it
was a game ago. Bennett recorded four saves in the effort.
Lycoming is next in action
on Wednesday, September 28, against the University of Scranton.
Game time is set for 4:00 p.m. at the Shangraw Athletic Complex. |
