Shipe's Hat-Trick Leads
Warriors to Victory
Wilkes-Barre, Pa. – Freshman
Rebekah Shipe (Northumberland, Pa./Northumberland Christian)
registered the first Warrior hat-trick of the season as Lycoming
women’s soccer upended King’s College 4-0 on Tuesday afternoon
in Wilkes-Barre.
The victory marked the third
straight for Lycoming and improved its season record to 5-1
overall and 1-0 in the Freedom Conference.
After scoring 108 goals
during her high school career, Shipe came to Lycoming with a
reputation as a prolific goal-scorer. So far, she’s living up
to that billing. Through six games this season, she’s racked up
seven goals and an assist to tie for the team lead in points
with sophomore Danielle Curry (West Chester, Pa./East),
the reigning Freedom Conference Rookie of the Year.
Shipe opened the scoring in
the 35th minute off a pass from freshman Stephanie
Shearer (Reading, Pa./Muhlenberg). Five minutes later,
Shipe tallied goal number two courtesy of a service from senior
Kaitlyn Prairie (Delran, N.J./Delran). The crafty center
midfielder now has three assists on the season.
Curry recorded her fifth
goal of the season in the 59th minute. Freshman
defender Lauren Kaczmarczyk (Gaithersburg, Md./Gaithersburg)
picked up the assist.
Shipe closed the scoring on
an unassisted effort in the 69th minute.
Lycoming is next in action
on Saturday, September 24, at Elizabethtown College. Game time
is set for 5:00 p.m. |
