Lady Warriors Snap Skid in
Resounding Fashion
Williamsport, Pa. – Lycoming
women’s soccer got back on track Monday afternoon with a
resounding 5-0 win over Lancaster Bible College at the Shangraw
Athletic Complex in Williamsport. Lycoming improves to 7-7 on
the season and snaps a five-game losing skid. Lancaster Bible
falls to 10-7.
The Warriors out shot the
Chargers 33-4 overall, but held LBC to only one shot in the
second half.
Sophomore striker
Danielle Curry (West Chester, Pa./East) moved closer to
several program records with a pair of goals in the effort.
Curry now has eight goals on the season and 23 in her career
giving her sole possession of second place on the Lycoming
women’s soccer all-time goals scored list. She sits only three
tallies shy of the 26 goals scored by Donna Mongiello from
1998-2001.
The two goals also increased
her season points total to 16. Combined with her 38 points from
last season, she now sits in second place just six points behind
Mongiello’s record 66 points. Curry already holds the
single-season record for goals scored (15) and is only two
assists short (15 career assists) of tying current teammate Kaitlyn Prairie (Delran,
N.J./Delran) for second in career assists with 17.
Curry put the Warriors on
the board with the first of two early goals for Lycoming. She
collected a pass from junior Stephanie Bomgardner (Dauphin,
Pa./Central Dauphin East) at the top of the Charger penalty
area and hammered the effort past a diving keeper.
Freshman Stephanie
Shearer (Reading, Pa./Muhlenberg) scored just 0:46 later to
give Lycoming a 2-0 advantage. She beat the keeper one-on-one
to complete a breakaway opportunity.
Junior Angie Conklin (Shermans
Dale, Pa./West Perry) collected her second goal of the
season in the 41st minute. She converted a chance in
the middle of LBC’s penalty area to give Lycoming a 3-0 halftime
lead.
Curry earned her second goal
of the match in the 53rd minute off an assist from
freshman Rebekah Shipe (Northumberland, Pa./Northumberland
Christian). Curry again found herself open at the top of
the penalty area and sent an impressive strike into the
top-shelf netting of LBC’s goal.
Shipe notched her own goal
exactly seven minutes later. Shearer assisted on the score
which marked the 10th goal of the campaign for Shipe.
She is the first Lady Warrior to reach double-digit goals this
season and the second freshman to do so in the past two years.
Lycoming is next in action
on Thursday, October 20, at Wilkes University. Game time is set
for 3:00 p.m. |
