Blowout Penn College in Season Opener
Selinsgrove,
Pa. – The Lycoming College women’s soccer team took out its
year-long frustration on Penn College Friday night disposing of
the Wildcats 7-0 in the opening game of the Susquehanna Labor
Day Classic in Selinsgrove, Pa.
The Warriors
(1-0) fell one victory shy of a berth into the 2004 Freedom
Conference playoffs after tying Wilkes University in the final
game of the season.
Sophomore
Danielle Curry (West Chester, Pa.), the reigning Freedom
Conference Rookie of the Year, exploded for a pair goals and
three assists to lead the offensive onslaught. Freshman
Stephanie Shearer (Reading, Pa.) benefited from two of
Curry’s assists while setting up Curry’s second goal after the
intermission.
Freshman
Rebekah Shipe (Northumberland, Pa.) notched a pair of scores
in the Lycoming’s five-goal first half wasting no time in living
up to her reputation as a deadly striker after graduating from
Northumberland Christian High School with 108 goals to her
credit.
Senior
Jennifer Darpino (Bensalem, Pa.) tallied the final goal of
the contest.
The Warriors,
only a season removed from setting a program record with 48
goals in 2004, are well on their way to eclipsing that mark just
one game into the season.
Lycoming next faces Alfred University on Saturday, September 3,
at 5:00 p.m. during final day of the Susquehanna Labor Day
Classic. |
