WOMEN’S SOCCER PLAYS WILKES TO A DRAW
WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – The Lycoming College women’s soccer team
hosted Freedom Conference rival Wilkes University, Thursday
afternoon. The Warriors were on the defensive most of the match
but held the Colonels scoreless for 110 minutes, playing the
visitors to a 0-0 double-overtime tie. The shutout is Lycoming’s
third in a row – they have now gone 350 minutes without allowing
a goal. The Warriors are now 8-2-1 overall this season and 3-0-1
within the conference. Wilkes moves to 6-5-1 and 1-2-1.
Lycoming
struggled mounting an offensive attack during regulation,
managing just six shots and only one on goal. Their defense,
however, turned back the Colonels at every opportunity and
forced the extra periods. The Warriors found more pressure in
the offensive end during the extra time, including a breakaway
in the second overtime, but could not score the game-winning
goal.
Wilkes,
however, was no more successful as Lycoming’s defense and keeper
Jessica Bennett (Fr./Crofton, Md.; South River)
maintained the shutout to secure the draw. Bennett finished the
game with 15 saves. Liz Pauly made three saves in net for the
Colonels.
The Warriors
play again on Sunday, October 10, when they host Lincoln
University. Kickoff for the match is at 2 p.m.
