WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – The Lycoming College women’s soccer team
hosted DeSales University, Sunday afternoon, for both schools’
Freedom Conference opener. The game featured a flurry of
first-half goals as the two teams put the ball in the net three
times during a 35 second span, but in the end the Warriors
claimed a 3-1 victory. Lycoming wins their fourth straight and
moves to 4-1 overall. DeSales falls to 3-3 on the season.
The Warriors
got on the scoreboard first when Beth Weixel (Sr./Mill Hall,
Pa.; Central Mountain) took a corner kick from Kaitlyn
Prairie (Jr./Delran, N.J.; Delran) and placed it in the back
of the net. The score came at the 31:09 mark. The Bulldogs
responded just 25 seconds later with a goal by McKayla Crist off
a crossing pass from Rachel Roderer. Lycoming would not be
outdone, however, regaining the lead just 10 seconds later when
Laura Dillon (Sr./Bayside, N.Y.; St. Mary’s) scored off
an assist from Danielle Curry (Fr./West Chester, Pa.; East).
Curry gave
the Warriors an insurance goal less than four minutes into the
second half, scoring an unassisted goal.
Jessica
Bennett (Fr./Crofton, Md.; South River)
made eight saves in goal for Lycoming. Kelly Hinkle made nine
saves in net for DeSales.
The
Warriors’ next match is on Wednesday, September 22, when they
travel to Juniata College for a non-conference match.
