WOMEN’S SOCCER SUFFERS CONFERENCE LOSS
WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – The Lycoming College women’s soccer team
hosted FDU-Florham, Sunday afternoon, for an important Freedom
Conference match. The Warriors bounced back from an early 1-0
deficit to tie the game up midway through the second half, only
to have the Devils add a second goal to claim a 2-1 victory.
Lycoming drops to 10-3-1 overall and 3-1-1 within the
conference. FDU improves to 9-4-1 and 5-0.
The Devils
got on the scoreboard just ten minutes into the match when Laura
Wittenberg pushed the ball across the goal-line off a pass from
Kathleen Rivera.
The Warriors
evened the score at 1-1 in the 63rd minute when
Beth Weixel (Sr./Mill Hall, Pa.; Central Mountain) converted
a penalty kick following a foul in the box.
FDU,
however, responded just eight minutes later with a goal by
Meghan Griswold. Lena Kalika assisted on the play.
Jessica
Bennett (Fr./Crofton, Md.; South River)
made 10 saves in goal for Lycoming. Melissa Braun made three
saves in net for the Devils.
The Warriors
will take a break from conference competition for their next
match, traveling to Lancaster Bible College on Tuesday, October
19.
