WOMEN’S SOCCER UPSETS SUNY-PURCHASE
PURCHASE,
N.Y. – The Lycoming College women’s soccer team traveled to
SUNY-Purchase, Sunday afternoon, for a non-conference match. The
Warriors scored two early goals and hung on to record a 2-1 upset
of the Panthers. Lycoming improves to 7-6-1overall, while SUNY-Purchase
drops to 10-4 on the season.
Laura
Dillon (Jr./Bayside, N.Y.; Saint Mary’s)
got the Warriors on the board in just the fourth minute of the
contest, scoring off an assist by Heather Edelstein (So./Pottsgrove,
Pa.; Milton). Jen Mercer (So./Dushore, Pa.; Sullivan
County) extended Lycoming’s lead to 2-0 with a goal in the
25th minute. Alicia Madigan (Jr./Waverly, N.Y.;
Waverly) assisted on the play.
The
Panthers scored a goal in the 39th minute, but could
not find the net again to tie the match.
Beth
Weixel (Jr./Mill Hall, Pa.; Central Mountain)
made nine saves in goal for the Warriors.
Lycoming
will play again on Tuesday, October 28, when they host the
University of Scranton.
