WOMEN’S SOCCER DEFEATS DESALES

VALLEY, PA – The Lycoming College women’s soccer team defeated
DeSales University, 2-1, Saturday afternoon in their first
conference match of the season. The Warriors improve to 2-3
overall and 1-0 in the Freedom Conference. The Bulldogs fall to
1-6-1 overall and 0-1 in the conference.
Heather
Edelstein (Fr./Pottsgrove, Pa.; Milton)
was the hero for Lycoming, scoring both goals for the visitors.
The first came at the 25:33 mark of the first half, as Edelstein
found the back of the net off a free kick from 30 yards out. The
second came at the 67:05 mark on a header off a corner kick. Jennifer
Mercer (So./Dushore, Pa.; Sullivan County) recorded the
assist.
DeSales
cut the Warriors’ lead in half just three minutes later on a
goal by sophomore Lori Ziegler, but could not tie the game as
Lycoming escaped with the one-goal victory.
Beth
Weixel (Jr./Mill Hall, Pa.; Central Mountain)
made six saves in goal for the Warriors.
Lycoming
will play again on Wednesday, September 24, when they host Juniata
College.
