WARRIOR
WOMEN’S SOCCER LOSES HEARTBREAKER IN DOUBLE OVERTIME
SCRANTON, PA
– The Lycoming College women’s soccer team lost a heartbreaker
Sunday afternoon to Marywood College. The Warriors played even
with the Pacers for more the 100 minutes, but Marywood scored on a
breakaway 25 seconds into the second overtime to steal the 1-0
victory. Lycoming falls to 0-4 with the loss.
Rebecca Grubb
tallied the game-winning goal for the Pacers and was named the
offensive MVP of the tournament.
Angie
Brewington (Sr./Benton, PA; Benton)
made 22 saves in goal for the Warriors. Her efforts between the
pipes earned her defensive MVP honors for the tournament.
Also named to the
all-tournament team were Jamie Wright (Sr./Flemington, NJ;
Hunterdon Central) as sweeper and Kristina Kleintop
(So./Danielsville, PA; Northampton) on defense.
“I’m
extremely proud of the way our team played today,” said head
coach Scott Kennell. “We have a small team to start with and
injuries left us with only 12 girls today. But they didn’t give
up and kept fighting for more than 100 minutes, not every team
would do that. We didn’t get the outcome we would have liked,
but I’m very proud of the way we played.”
