MANSFIELD, PA
– The Lycoming College women’s soccer team picked up their first
victory of the season, Thursday afternoon, defeating Division II
Mansfield University, 2-1. The Warriors scored two goals in the
first seven minutes of the second half after a scoreless first
half and hung on for the one-goal victory. Lycoming is now 1-6 on
the season. The Mounties fall to 0-5.
Kaitlyn
Prairie (Fr./Delran, NJ; Delran)
put the Warriors up 1-0 in the 47th minute, scoring her
first collegiate goal. She then assisted on Lycoming’s second goal
less than five minutes later when Melissa Wert
(Sr./Mifflinburg, PA; Mifflinburg) banged home a rebound. The
goal was Wert’s third of the season.
Megan Colbey
scored Mansfield’s only goal of the game in the 87th
minute.
Angie

“I’m proud of
the way we played today. We capitalized on their mistakes and took
it to them,” said head coach Scott Kennell. “We’re a small team
that is obviously rebuilding this year, but the girls have never
quit on me and I’m happy it paid off with a win today.”
Lycoming will
play their next match on Thursday, September 26, when they travel
to Juniata College.
