WOMEN’S SOCCER DROPS MATCH TO SUSQUEHANNA
WILLIAMSPORT,
PA – The Lycoming College women’s soccer team hosted rival
Susquehanna University, Tuesday afternoon. The Crusaders scored
twice in the first half and added a third goal in the second
period to outdistance the Warriors, 3-1. Lycoming falls to 0-6
with the loss. Susquehanna improved to 1-5-1.
Melissa
Wert (Sr./Mifflinburg, PA; Mifflinburg)
scored the Warriors’ lone goal on a penalty kick in the seventh
minute of the game. The tally tied the score at 1-1.
Kristin
Abernathy scored the first goal of the game for the Crusaders,
just five minutes into the match. Megan Deitmen recorded the
game-winning goal in the 19th minute off an assist by
Kate McMaster. Aileen Cleary added the insurance goal in the 76th
minute off an assist by Danielle Zaborowski.
Angie
Brewington (Sr./Benton, PA; Benton)
made 12 saves in goal for Lycoming. Melissa Karschner, a graduate
of Montoursville High School, made three saves for Susquehanna.
The
Warriors next match is on Thursday, September 19, when they travel
to Mansfield University.
