The
Budd Whitehill Duals... a tradition unto itself that rallies some of
the nation's top wrestling talent to one location. From as far
west as Wisconsin and Iowa and spanning most of the Atlantic seaboard, teams
travel whatever distance necessary to prove their mettle in
an event rivaled only by a national title setting.
The 2007 Budd Whitehill National Wrestling Duals,
hosted for the 13th consecutive year in Lycoming College's Lamade
Gymnasium, features a 20-team pool that includes nine of the top 30
squads in NCAA Division III,
according to the latest Brute/Adidas NWCA Poll.* Among the
individuals wrestling, 20 are rated in the top eight of their
respective weight class. Cortland State's Paul LeBlanc is tops in
the nation at 141 pounds
The duals are named
after longtime Lycoming coach Budd Whitehill.
"The name change was to
finalize some recognition of Budd Whitehill for the extended service
he gave to Division III wrestling and wrestling in general," added
current Lyco head coach Roger Crebs.
Whitehill, who passed
away in the summer of 1993, started the Lycoming wrestling program
in 1956. He was the program's only head coach for its first 37
seasons of competition.
