Warrior Wrestlers Defeat Scranton                              Grapplers Dominate in Opening Dual

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa.—Lycoming’s wrestling team defeated Scranton 42-9 on Wednesday at Lamade Gymnasium. The Warriors lost only two matches and recorded three pins to the Royals’ one.

The match started at the 141-pound weight class, which Lycoming’s Kyle Hopkins (Milton, DE) won by technical fall 16-0. The Warriors then notched consecutive pins by junior Drew Barder (Millersburg, PA) and freshman Chris Dahlheimer (Felton, PA) to secure a sound lead they would not relinquish.

At 165 pounds, Scranton’s Steve Tatum grabbed the Royals’ first victory. The match was stopped three times for injury and blood, all Tatum’s, but ultimately Eric Miller (Muncy, PA) couldn’t turn the talented Tatum.

In a grueling match at 174 pounds, sophomore Eddie Brown (Rutherford, NJ) methodically defeated Kevin DiGiullio by technical fall, 15-3. 185-pound sophomore Bryan Kopesky (Phillipsburg, NJ) won by forfeit and 197-pound junior Matt Miller (Muncy, PA) pinned his man at 2:43 in the first period.

At 285, Scranton’s Neil Slocum took down freshman Scott Reed (Port Jarvis, NY) and pinned him with seven seconds remaining in the opening period for the Royals second win. Circling around to 125 pounds, Lycoming’s Joe Palmitessa (Scranton, PA) won by default as the Royals could not provide an adversary. And, finally, senior Sean Cullen (Cinnaminson, NJ) outlasted Rich Russell to close out the evening for the Warriors.

Lycoming travels next to Ursinus on November 18.
