Wrestling Team Places Fourth
at Ithaca
ITHACA, N.Y. – The Lycoming
wrestlers finished fourth in
a field of 17 teams at the
Ithaca College Invitational
this weekend. Five Warriors
placed top five in their
weight class, bolstering
Lycoming’s point total to
113.0 points.
“I thought we wrestled very
well in our first
competition,” said Head
Coach Roger Crebs.
“Our freshmen did well and
so did our returning
upperclassmen.” Anticipating
a top eight placement, the
Warriors’ fourth place
finish pleased the coach.
Senior 133-pounder Sean
Cullen (Cinnaminson, NJ)
took second place, dropping
the championship match 5-3
to second seed Ray
Sarinelli of The College
of New Jersey. Lycoming’s
Kyle Hopkins (Milton, DE)
lost in the championship
semi-finals to eventual
champion, Andy Lacroix.
But Hopkins rallied and
swept the consolation
bracket to secure
third-place.
Junior Drew Barder
(Millersburg, PA) began
the tournament as a seventh
seed, but rose to grab fifth
place by beating fellow
149-pounder Lenny Goduto
in the consolation rounds.
Brother Warriors Eric
and Matt Miller (Muncy,
PA) placed fourth and
third respectively in the
165 and 197 weight classes.
Matt pinned Hunter’s
Brian Scher in 6:48 to
win the consolation bracket.
Lycoming last wrestled at
the Ithaca Invitational in
2004-05. They took fourth
then and went on to a 17-5
season. Coach Crebs
and his team hope to echo
that success and add a sixth
MAC championship to their
list of accomplishments.
The Warriors travel to the
Syracuse Open on November
11. Lycoming then returns
for their first home match
on Wednesday, November 15
against Scranton at 7:00
p.m.
