LYCOMING WRESTLING GOES 3-0 AT PA/NY DUALS

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – The Lycoming College wrestling team hosted the Pennsylvania – New York Duals, Saturday morning and afternoon. The event featured Lycoming, King’s College, and the University of Scranton challenging SUNY-Cortland, SUNY-Oswego, and Rochester Institute of Technology in a round robin of dual matches. Lycoming was a perfect 3-0 on the day defeating Cortland, 33-12; Oswego, 31-9; and RIT, 27-16. Scranton and Oswego each went 2-1 on the day, Cortland and RIT were each 1-2, and King’s was 0-3. The Warriors are now 9-4 overall in dual matches this season.

Against Cortland, Lycoming won seven of 10 bouts. Jason Smith (Jr./Hughesville, Pa.; Hughesville) and Joe Ostrowski (Jr./Wilkes-Barre, Pa.; E.L. Meyers) led the way with pins at 157 pounds and heavyweight, respectively. Sean Reese (Sr./Milton, Pa.; Milton) – 149, Hank Reedy (Fr./Sinking Spring, Pa.; Wilson) – 184, and Kevin Colton Craig (Sr./Flanders, N.J.; West Morris Mendham) – 197 each won by decision. Nick Mascellino (So./Hopatcong, N.J.; Hopatcong) - 125 and Drew Barder (Fr./Millersburg, Pa.; Upper Dauphin) – 133 each received forfeits.

Versus Oswego, the Warriors were dominant winning eight of 10 bouts, including back-to-back pins at 157 and 165 pounds by Smith and Grant Brindle (Sr./Pine Grove, Pa.; Pine Grove), respectively. Brindle’s opponent had entered the match ranked fifth in the nation at 165 pounds. Reese added a major decision at 149 pounds and Lycoming tallied five other decisions in the match.

Finally, against RIT, the Warriors won 6-of-10 bouts. Mascellino opened the match with a first-period pin at 125 pounds. Reese and Brindle also recorded wins-by-fall at 149 and 165 pounds. Sean Cullen (So./Cinnaminson, N.J.; Cinnaminson) – 133, Eric Miller (So./Muncy, Pa.; Montgomery) – 174, and Matt Miller (Fr./Muncy, Pa.; Montgomery) – 184 each added decisions.

Lycoming will be in action again next weekend when they host the Budd Whitehill Division III Duals on Friday and Saturday, January 14-15.
