LYCOMING WRESTLING TOPS RIVAL DELAWARE VALLEY
WILLIAMSPORT, Pa – The Lycoming College wrestling team
hosted Delaware Valley College, Thursday evening, for a
showdown of the top two teams in the Middle Atlantic
Conference. The Warriors entered the match 6-0 versus
conference opponents and ranked ninth in the nation. The
Aggies were ranked third in the nation and also 6-0 in the
MAC. Lycoming took advantage of a thin Delaware Valley
lineup and upset the Aggies 20-18. The Warriors improve to
17-5 overall and finish their conference schedule at 7-0.
Delaware Valley falls to 13-4 and 6-1.
The
match opened with Lycoming’s

Weller (Sr./Philipsburg, Pa.; Philipsburg-Osceola)
accepting a forfeit at 125 pounds.

second to lead 4-0 entering the final period. Cullen,
however, scored an escape and quick takedown to close within
one. Wise secured the win with an escape, a takedown, and a
point for riding time.
Delaware Valley got another decision at 141 to tie the match
at 6-6. Tom Becker

5-2.

over

(Sr./Milton, Pa.; Milton)
at 149 pounds.. Frondorf tallied a pair of takedowns in the
first period and hung on for the win.

pounds, Delaware Valley extended their lead to 12-6 with
another decision.

tallied
eight takedowns and five near-fall points en route to a

got Delaware Valley back on track with a 7-4 decision at 184
pounds. Helms scored three takedowns and added riding time
to top
Matt

With
the match coming down to heavyweight, the Warriors’
Tommy Snyder (Jr./New
Columbia, Pa.; Milton)
opened up a 3-0 lead with a first period takedown and a
second period escape.
Jamall Johnson (Jr./Camden,
N.J.; Pennsauken Tech)
tied the bout at 3-3 with an escape and a takedown in the
third period. But Snyder held more than a minute of riding
time, so Johnson was forced to give up an escape in hopes of
scoring another takedown. That takedown never came as Snyder
hung on for the 5-3 win and a 20-18 victory for Lycoming.
The

when they travel to Mount Union College to wrestle a series
