Warriors Rough Up Scranton in MAC Opener
SCRANTON, Pa. – Lycoming College wrestling
opened the 2005-06 MAC schedule with a 40-6 thumping of the
University of Scranton on Wednesday evening. The Warriors
improved to 3-2-1 on the season in dual matches.
The Royals took an early 3-0 lead on a 4-2
decision by sophomore Rich Russell at 125, but the
Warriors regained the momentum as junior Sean Cullen
(Cinnaminson, N.J./Cinnaminson) posted a 14-1 major
decision over Ryan McDaniel at 133 and sophomore
Drew Barder (Millersburg, Pa./Upper Dauphin) pinned
freshman Matthew Lynch 52 seconds into the first
period to give the Warriors a 10-3 lead.
Also posting pins for the Warriors were
senior Derek Crane (Elizabethtown, Pa./Elizabethtown)
and senior James Hoffacker (New Oxford, Pa./Bermudian
Springs). Crane pinned Matt Pastore at the 3:39
mark of the second period at 174 and Hoffacker registered a
pin over freshman James Deese at the 6:00-minute mark
of the third period at 285.
Scranton’s only other win was registered by
sophomore Stephen Tatum with a 4-1 decision over
senior Heath Oberlin (Mifflinburg, Pa./Mifflinburg)
at 165.
Lycoming is next in action at the Scranton
Invitational this Sunday, December 4. Match time for the
ten team affair will begin at 9:00 a.m. in Scranton.
