LYCOMING WRESTLING DEFEATS YORK

YORK, Pa – The Lycoming College wrestling team, ranked eighth in the nation, traveled to York College, Wednesday evening, to challenge the 19th ranked Spartans. The Warriors dominated the middle weights and won 6-of-10 bouts overall to record a 22-13 victory. Lycoming improves to 14-5 overall, while York falls to 13-5.

The Spartans opened the match with a 7-5 decision at 125 pounds, but Sean Cullen (So./Cinnaminson, N.J.; Cinnaminson) gave the Warriors the lead with a second-period pin of Tim Bohlman. York tied the match at 6-6 with another decision at 141 pounds.

Lycoming took control of the match by winning the next four weight classes. Sean Reese (Sr./Milton, Pa.; Milton) got things started at 149 pounds with a 3-2 decision over Jim Russial. Jason Smith (Jr./Hughesville, Pa.; Hughesville) followed with a 4-0 decision over Garrett Faulkner at 157. At 165 pounds, Grant Brindle (Jr./Pine Grove, Pa.; Pine Grove) recorded an 18-8 major decision over Jerry Bowne. Derek Crane (Sr./Elizabethtown, Pa.; Elizabethtown) capped the run with a 4-3 decision over Gavin Luckman to give the Warriors a 19-6 advantage.

The Spartans won the next two weights by decision and major decision, respectively, to hold onto a glimmer of hope entering the heavyweight bout trailing 13-19. Lycoming’s Tommy Snyder (Jr./New Columbia, Pa.; Milton), however, secured the victory with a 7-1 decision over Sean Cunningham.

The Warriors will host the Middle Atlantic Conference Duals on Saturday, January 29, beginning at 10 a.m. in Lamade Gymnasium. Lycoming will wrestle twice during the event – at 10 a.m. versus Messiah College, and at 11:30 a.m. versus Albright College.
