LYCOMING WRESTLING DEFEATS YORK
YORK,
Pa The Lycoming College wrestling team, ranked eighth in
the nation, traveled to York College, Wednesday evening, to
challenge the 19th ranked Spartans. The Warriors
dominated the middle weights and won 6-of-10 bouts overall
to record a 22-13 victory. Lycoming improves to 14-5
overall, while York falls to 13-5.
The
Spartans opened the match with a 7-5 decision at 125 pounds,
but Sean Cullen
(So./Cinnaminson, N.J.; Cinnaminson)
gave the Warriors the lead with a second-period pin of Tim
Bohlman. York tied the match at 6-6 with another decision at
141 pounds.
Lycoming took control of the match by winning the next four
weight classes. Sean
Reese (Sr./Milton, Pa.; Milton)
got things started at 149 pounds with a 3-2 decision over
Jim Russial. Jason
Smith (Jr./Hughesville, Pa.; Hughesville)
followed with a 4-0 decision over Garrett Faulkner at 157.
At 165 pounds, Grant
Brindle (Jr./Pine Grove, Pa.; Pine Grove)
recorded an 18-8 major decision over Jerry Bowne.
Derek Crane
(Sr./Elizabethtown, Pa.; Elizabethtown)
capped the run with a 4-3 decision over Gavin Luckman to
give the Warriors a 19-6 advantage.
The
Spartans won the next two weights by decision and major
decision, respectively, to hold onto a glimmer of hope
entering the heavyweight bout trailing 13-19. Lycomings
Tommy Snyder (Jr./New
Columbia, Pa.; Milton),
however, secured the victory with a 7-1 decision over Sean
Cunningham.
The
Warriors will host the Middle Atlantic Conference Duals on
Saturday, January 29, beginning at 10 a.m. in Lamade
Gymnasium. Lycoming will wrestle twice during the event at
10 a.m. versus Messiah College, and at 11:30 a.m. versus
Albright College.
